AG-UI is an open, lightweight, event-based protocol that standardizes how AI agents connect to user-facing applications. Complementing MCP (agent-to-tool) and A2A (agent-to-agent), AG-UI focuses on bringing agents into user interfaces. Agent backends emit standardized event streams and accept simple inputs, enabling seamless agent-human interaction. It features a flexible middleware layer compatible with various transports like SSE or WebSockets, and natively supports real-time streaming, bi-directional state synchronization, generative UI, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
